MASSAGE THERAPY

Many times people don’t know how much stress they are carrying until they have a massage. It is as good thing to feel it and just let go of it. As the licensed massage therapist loosens and stretches muscles and connective tissues, stress and muscular tension are released and melt away. Once you have an awareness of where stress lodges in your body you can begin to do something about it. Through proper health education you can reverse a negative cycle via massage therapy.

Massages can do a myriad of things, such as: alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion, enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow, exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles and increase joint flexibility.

The massage therapists at the Myrtle Beach Spine Center specialize in several different types of massage. We have a massage menu that will suit most of your needs. Some of the most common types of massages performed are:

Often prescribed for injuries and conditions of pain. The goal is to soften the muscles and break up adhesions, so that the doctor can begin spinal care and rehabilitation procedures with minimal discomfort to the patient. Once the body has been freed of muscle spasms and pain, the doctor can begin to restore normal ranges of motion, strengthen, and increase flexibility to the spine. This treatment would aid in stabilizing the spine, which would decrease the chance of future injuries.
The most common type of massage therapy in the United States. The therapist uses long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. If you’ve never had massage before, this is a good one to try first.
A massage with the addition of one or more scented plant oils called essential oils to address specific needs. This type of massage is particularly suited to stress-related conditions or conditions with an emotional component.
Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer lighter massage.
Targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. It is most commonly used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
Sports Massage is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. The focus isn’t on relaxation, but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. The strokes are generally faster than Swedish Massage and facilitated stretching is a common technique. It helps to loosen muscles and increase flexibility.
